Transparency - Is there a simple example?

I love the toolkit, great work. I've been hacking my way through the basics and can now draw the arbitrary meshes I need using VertexPositionNormalColor and IDrawableShape.

Here is a quick video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhUPlP3BCus showing the work in progress, an algorithmic 3D model generator loosely based on the syntax from Context Free Art ( http://www.contextfreeart.org/mediawiki/index.php/CFDG_HOWTO ).

Basically the few lines of code you see on the left generate the 3D model you see in the right. Zero documentation written yet, I will have a simple how-to once I get it to a publishable state.

I am having trouble getting transparency to work. Basically, I am able to set the tranparency level for the complete scene but I can't find teh way to make each mesh have its own transparency level. I have only started looking at this but the obvious places (changing Alpha in VertexColorEffect and mocking around with BlendState do not seem to work.

Is there a simple example out there where transparency is set on a mesh-by-mesh level?

Thanks in advance for any help on this subject.
